Net Teacher

My name is Blake Peugh and this will be my first year working as the NET (Native English Teacher) at Buddhist Chan Wing Kan Memorial School. I am from a small town in the United States named Milledgeville. However, I have been living and teaching English in Hong Kong for over 7 years now. I have loved my years working with primary age students in Hong Kong and am very excited to start my new journey at Buddhist Chan Wing Kan Memorial School.

This year I will be teaching students in P.1, P.2, and P.3. Our English program takes a holistic approach to teaching that includes many methods such as reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to help students learn English in a more effective manner. For P.1 and P.2 students, I will be teaching the newly revised PLP-R/W program which is now called Space Town. This will be the second year of implementation for the P.1 program and the first year for the P.2 program.

During every school year, there are 6 units of work conducted in Space Town. For every unit taught in the English room, the teachers will do 2 units from the textbook at the same time to best aid students in reaching their full English potential. It is important to note that not all of the pages of the text book will be done because the same material will be covered in the English room with me as well.

For P.3 students, I will continue to work with the class teachers to help teach and support the PLP-R/W program. We will focus our lessons in the English room on 3 units throughout the year. These 3 units were chosen as to best coordinate with the English program taught in their classrooms.

To support all programs we have put information on the school web page on this site. The letter in your child’s home reading bag is written in English and Chinese to help you to open the information on our website. Please keep the letter in the reading bag so that you can refer back to it. It is important to allow your child to open the English website every week to read the books from the reading bag with the computer. There are also many other fun and beneficial English activities on the site such as e-books, English word games, puzzles, songs and e-learning opportunities for your child to enjoy.

Home reading bags:
To help your child to read in English it is important that they read to you 2 or 3 times a week. You may watch the video of me listening to a student read to get ideas on how to help them if needed. It is important for your child to do all of the homework in the reading bags every week.

EVERY WEEK

  1. Allow your child to read the small reading books along with the computer.
  2. Listen to them read 2-3 times every week.
  3. Help your child learn new words each week
  4. Encourage self learning by using the English website on our school web page.

I look forward to getting to know all of my new students as well as their families. I am always available to talk with you or answer any questions you may have about our English programs. I hope that we can all share in and benefit from a new fun and successful year together!

Best Regards,
Blake Peugh
